Dependent Woman

She's an independent woman.

She brandishes the S on her chest

As she takes care of house and home

She does it all on her own

Working nine to five to make ends meet

She’s forever on her feet

Marching to her own drum’s beat

“She’s independent,” they say

But really, she’s dependent

She’s dependent on the busyness

To keep her distracted from her loneliness

She’s dependent on the stress and duress

To remind her that she needs to rest

She’s dependent on doing all it takes

To keep a smile on her own face

But, “She’s independent,” they say

So she continues to parade with her S on her chest

All the while being dependent.
